Original Labubu vs Lafufu: the simple answer

Original Labubu means a real Labubu release connected to Kasing Lung's The Monsters world, including official HOW2WORK releases and officially licensed Pop Mart releases.

Lafufu is not an official series name. Collectors usually use it as a nickname for fake, imitation, or lookalike Labubu-style dolls.

Example from TOYSEZ TAL: left is Original Labubu, right is Lafufu / fake Labubu. Compare the face shape, nose color, eye placement, teeth, and fur texture, then confirm the exact series details such as packaging, card, tag, material, and batch differences.

What does Original Labubu mean?

Labubu was created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung as part of The Monsters. Early physical Labubu figures were closely connected to HOW2WORK, and later Pop Mart became the main official licensed product line for many Labubu blind boxes, plush pendants, and collectible releases.

So when collectors say Original Labubu, they usually do not mean one single product. They mean an authentic Labubu item from the official Labubu / The Monsters line, not a fake figure sold under a similar name.

What is Lafufu?

Lafufu is collector slang for fake Labubu. Some Lafufu dolls are obvious copies, while others are close enough to confuse new collectors in online photos.

The hard part is that real Labubu items can also have normal differences between series, production batches, packaging versions, or opened-box condition. That is why TOYSEZ does not recommend using one universal rule for every Labubu.

How to check if a Labubu is real

Start with the exact series first. Big Into Energy, Have a Seat, Macaron, Pin for Love, collaboration releases, and limited pieces can all have different details.

  • Confirm the series: Do not compare a Have a Seat figure against a Big Into Energy reference.
  • Check the face and teeth: Many fake Labubu dolls look slightly wrong around the mouth, eyes, teeth, or face shape.
  • Compare the box and card: Look at print sharpness, logo placement, color, spacing, and whether the card matches the claimed style.
  • Look at tags, fur, and stitching: Fake plush figures can look close in photos but feel different in material and finishing.
  • Be careful with price: A price that is far below normal market level is a warning sign, but a high price does not prove the item is real.

Use the right TOYSEZ real-vs-fake guide

This page gives the general answer. If you are checking a real item before buying, use the guide for that exact Labubu series:

Why this matters for collectors

Original Labubu releases can range from common blind box items to secret figures, limited pieces, collaborations, and high-value auction records. Because demand is high, fake Labubu listings also move quickly across marketplaces and social platforms.

If you are researching rarity or value, these TOYSEZ references are better starting points than random social posts:

TOYSEZ note

Fake Labubu details change over time, and authentic products can also have normal batch differences. TOYSEZ keeps updating its collector guides as we review more products and community examples.
