TOYSEZ · Est. 2019

We built this
so you don't
get burned.

I'm Ryan. I've been collecting designer toys for over a decade and authenticating them for five. I built TOYSEZ — the lab, the database, the store — because the counterfeit problem in this market is real, and most collectors only find out after they've already paid.

Our Story

We bought a fake. Yuki cried. That's what started all of this.

Early in our collecting days, Yuki saved up for a figure she'd wanted for a long time. When it arrived, something felt off — we just couldn't place it at first. A few days later, after comparing it to every reference photo we could find, we knew. It was a fake. A good one, but a fake. Watching her go through that — the excitement, then the doubt, then the disappointment — is something I haven't forgotten.

I got obsessed after that. I started documenting everything: packaging details, paint markers, weight differences, mold lines. What started as notes in a spreadsheet became a database. The database became a lab. My wife Yuki and I built TOYSEZ together — so no one else has to go through what she did.

The database is free and always will be. The store carries figures that have passed through the lab, including limited pieces consigned by collectors who trust us to authenticate and sell on their behalf.

01
Out of the box, gloves on
Every figure comes out of its packaging before anything else. We're feeling for weight, checking seam lines, looking at how paint sits on the surface. After 10,000+ figures you develop a sense for when something's off before you can even explain why.
02
Tools don't lie
UV light, calipers, magnification. Counterfeit paint often fluoresces differently under UV — something you'd never catch in normal light. Dimensions get measured; fakes are almost always slightly off. These aren't big differences, but they're consistent ones.
03
The box matters as much as the figure
Print quality, box weight, hologram placement, QR code behavior — the packaging tells its own story. Some of the most convincing fakes we've seen had perfect figures in terrible boxes. We check both, every time.
04
Logged and cross-referenced
Every figure gets recorded. We track known counterfeit variants by batch, by seller region, by the specific defects that recur. That database is what makes authentication faster and more reliable over time — and it's what powers the TAL reports we publish.

What We Do

Three things. Done properly.

TAL
Authentication Lab
This is the core of everything I do. I inspect figures, document what I find, and publish authentication reports on the releases that attract the most fakes — so collectors have real reference data before they spend serious money.

Collector Reference
I built the database I wished existed when I started collecting — every series, every secret figure, every limited edition, organized by IP and searchable. 60+ IPs, 400+ series. Free, always.

Authenticated Store
Every figure in the store has been through the lab — whether it's something I sourced directly or a limited piece consigned by a collector. No drop-shipping, no grey market. If it's listed, it's been checked.

The Lab Team

I don't do this alone.

Authentication only works if you actually know the figures you're looking at. I built the team around people who are deep into their specific corners of the collector world — not generalists, but specialists who've been handling these figures for years.

Co-Founder · Lead Authenticator
That's me. I started collecting over a decade ago and spent the last five years turning what I learned into a system. Limited editions and high-value figures are my focus — the ones where getting it wrong costs the most.

Yuki
Co-Founder · Plush Specialist
Yuki co-founded TOYSEZ with me. She covers the categories I don't — Sonny Angel, Disney, Sanrio, and this year a deep focus on plush authentication, which is one of the fastest-growing counterfeit categories right now. A lot of what keeps this operation running day to day is her.

Authenticator · Rare IP Specialist
Mico handles the hard cases — early Labubu, Zimomo, Tinytiny, POM. The figures with no official authentication guide and no room for error. When something rare comes through the lab, Mico is who I go to.

Ruru
Authenticator · Character IP Specialist
Licensed character IPs like Tokidoki, Sanrio, and Disney get counterfeited constantly because the demand is so broad. Ruru has been collecting in this space for years and built a big part of our authentication reference for these categories.

If you collect seriously,
you should know what you have.

The database is free. If you want to buy something, everything in the store has been through the lab first — sourced directly or consigned by collectors who needed it authenticated before selling. That's the only promise I make — and the only one that matters.
