About Zootopia

Zootopia is the award-winning animated franchise created by Walt Disney Animation Studios, first released in theaters in 2016. Set in a world where anthropomorphic mammals have evolved beyond predator-prey dynamics, the franchise centers on Judy Hopps — an idealistic rabbit police officer — and Nick Wilde, a street-smart fox — as they investigate crime and confront bias across the sprawling modern metropolis of Zootopia. The film grossed over $1 billion worldwide and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 89th Academy Awards in 2017, recognized for both its technical achievement and its unusually direct engagement with themes of social prejudice and systemic discrimination. Since its debut, Zootopia has expanded into theme park attractions, consumer products, and a growing collectible ecosystem. The 2023 opening of a dedicated Zootopia-themed land at Shanghai Disneyland marked a landmark milestone in the franchise's real-world footprint.
