About Teletubbies

Teletubbies is a British children's television series created by Anne Wood and Andrew Davenport, first broadcast on BBC on 31 March 1997. The show features four colourful, lovable characters — Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po — each named after their distinctive appearance and designed to resemble chubby toddlers in soft, plush-like suits with television screens on their tummies and antennas on their heads. Set in the idyllic Teletubbyland, the show was groundbreaking in its approach to early childhood education, using repetition, music, and gentle storytelling to engage children aged one to four. Teletubbies quickly became a global phenomenon, broadcast in over 120 countries and translated into dozens of languages. A full CGI reboot produced by Darrall Macqueen launched in 2015, introducing the characters to a new generation. In the designer toy market, Teletubbies have become a beloved blind box collectible IP, with their soft forms and pastel colour palette translating beautifully into kawaii-style figures and plush pendants.

Designer

Anne Wood CBE is a British television producer and the co-creator of Teletubbies, which she developed alongside writer Andrew Davenport for Ragdoll Productions and the BBC. First broadcast in 1997, Teletubbies was designed specifically for children under two years old — an audience previously considered too young for television. The show's slow pace, repetition, and warm primary-colour world were informed by child development research. It aired in over 120 countries and became one of the most recognised children's television programmes in the world.
