About Nanci

I am Nanci — 囡茜 in Suzhou dialect, a name that means a cherished young girl. My creator Sadie dreamed me up during a meeting she probably should have been paying attention to, and spent two years quietly refining what I could become. I arrived wearing silk and poetry, dressed in the colors of the Tang Dynasty and the rhythms of the 24 Solar Terms, but with one foot always in a softer, more dreamlike world. Rolife gave me a home, and collectors gave me a life — more than 26 series, 30 limited editions, and counting. Every outfit I wear carries a story: a solar term, a verse, a festival, a garden. I am very Chinese, and I am very much of this moment.

Designer

Sadie is a Chinese toy designer and illustrator of the post-90s generation, born and raised in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. She studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (四川美术学院), one of China's leading fine arts academies, where she developed a deep affinity for traditional Chinese culture and visual storytelling. Sadie joined Rolife (若来), a creative lifestyle brand under Suzhou-based ROBOTIME Group, as one of its core in-house designers. In 2019, the concept for her signature IP character Nanci (囡茜) emerged unexpectedly — sketched during a work meeting — and underwent approximately two years of refinement before its commercial launch. The name Nanci is rooted in Suzhou dialect, carrying connotations of an endearing young girl. Her artistic approach fuses classical Chinese costume design, drawing on Tang Dynasty aesthetics, traditional poetry themes, and the 24 Solar Terms, with Western vintage influences and a consistently soft, healing visual atmosphere. Sadie personally oversaw every stage of production for the initial Nanci release, including an extended residency at the manufacturing factory in Guangdong to supervise mold and color accuracy. Under her design direction, the Nanci line grew into Rolife's flagship IP, encompassing over 26 mainstream blind box series and 30 limited editions, with thematic series including Chinese Zodiac, Chinese Poetry, Secret Garden, and a licensed collaboration with the TV drama The Story of Ming Lan's Era.
