About My Melody

I am My Melody, and I have been bringing warmth and sweetness to the world since 1975. I live in Mariland, a magical place where flowers bloom in every color and the air always smells of freshly baked cookies. My best friend is a mouse named Flat, and together we spend our days baking, picking flowers, and going on gentle adventures through the forest near my home. Created by Sanrio designer Yasuko Matsumoto, I was inspired by the story of Little Red Riding Hood — which is why I am almost always wearing my beloved hood, whether it is red, pink, or any color that matches my mood that day. I debuted in 1975, making me one of Sanrio's oldest original characters, and I have been a beloved companion to fans around the world for five decades. Designer

Yasuko Matsumoto is a Sanrio character designer best known for creating My Melody, one of the company's most enduring and beloved original characters. My Melody debuted in 1975, making her one of Sanrio's earliest IPs, preceded only by Hello Kitty (1974). Matsumoto conceived the character as a gentle homage to the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood, creating a soft white rabbit wearing a hood that covers her entire head and ears. The character's name derives from the English word "melody," reflecting a musical and cheerful spirit. Matsumoto also designed Little Twin Stars (Kiki and Lala), another landmark Sanrio property that has remained popular for five decades. Her design philosophy — combining simple, iconic silhouettes with warm emotional resonance — has had a lasting influence on kawaii character design. My Melody has consistently ranked among Sanrio's top commercial characters globally, reaching 2nd place in franchise revenue in 2019 and maintaining a top-five position in Sanrio's annual character popularity polls.
