About Jujutsu Kaisen
Gege Akutami began writing us in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018. Over six and a half years and 271 chapters, we became one of the defining manga of our time, with more than 100 million copies in circulation by the day the final chapter ran on September 30, 2024. We are Yuji Itadori, a boy who swallowed a cursed finger and became the vessel of the King of Curses. We are Megumi Fushiguro and his shadow shikigami, Maki Zen'in fighting without cursed energy, Yuta Okkotsu carrying a love that turned into a curse, and Choso, a brother who chose his side. MAPPA's anime in 2020 and the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 carried us far beyond Japan. Pop Mart brought the Culling Game, the most brutal chapter of our story, into blind box form, with Yuji and Panda waiting as its secret.
Designer
Gege Akutami is a Japanese manga artist born on February 26, 1992, in Iwate Prefecture, and the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen. Akutami's early career followed the familiar Shueisha route of one-shots and short works, including No. 9 in 2015, before the four-chapter Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School ran in Jump GIGA in 2017. That short series introduced the world of cursed energy and jujutsu sorcerers and was later collected as Jujutsu Kaisen 0, the prequel to everything that followed.
Jujutsu Kaisen began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump on March 5, 2018, and ran for six and a half years until its 271st and final chapter on September 30, 2024. By its conclusion, Shueisha reported more than 100 million copies in circulation, including digital editions. MAPPA's anime adaptation, launched in October 2020, and the 2021 film Jujutsu Kaisen 0 carried the series to a global audience.
Akutami's work is known for intricate power systems explained with almost legalistic precision, sudden and unsentimental character deaths, and a willingness to let the story turn bleak. The Culling Game arc, in which sorcerers are forced into a nationwide battle royale, is one of the clearest expressions of that style, and it now forms the theme of POP MART's Jujutsu Kaisen The Culling Game Blind Box Series.
