About Bearbrick

I'm Bearbrick — not one character, but a canvas. Created by Medicom Toy in 2001, I'm a bear-shaped figure that stands as an open platform for creativity. Artists, designers, musicians and brands from every corner of the world have brought me to life in thousands of unique ways — from KAWS and Banksy to Nike, Supreme and Chanel. Every numbered Series tells a new story. Every collaboration is a different world. I don't belong to one vision — I belong to all of them.

Designer

Ryohin Akashi is the founder and director of Medicom Toy, the Japanese collectible company he established in 1996. In 2001, he introduced Bearbrick — a bear-shaped figure platform that would become one of the most influential open-canvas collectibles in the world. Rather than designing a single character, Akashi's vision was to create a universal form: a highly reproducible, instantly recognizable silhouette that any artist, designer or brand could transform into a unique work. Under his direction, Bearbrick has hosted thousands of collaborations with global icons including KAWS, Banksy, Andy Warhol's estate, Nike, Supreme, Chanel, Daft Punk, the Rolling Stones and hundreds more. The numbered Series format — releasing twice yearly since 2001 — has become a collector institution, with each series featuring themed categories across Basic, Jellybean, Flag, Pattern, Artist, Horror, SF, and Secret figures. Akashi's platform model redefined what a designer toy could be: not the expression of one voice, but a stage for countless creative collaborations.
