I started as a sketch on a ceramic mold, brought to life by a Seoul artist who fell in love with bisque dolls and a rabbit named Cheese. My name is Ban — half-human, half-rabbit — and the word I am named after means both "half" and "infatuation" in Korean. I carry a small carrot or fish wherever I go, because I am always searching for the animals that have been left behind. My creator, Kim Sooya, spent over a decade shaping ceramic figures before the world was ready for me in blind box form. When Sooya Studio launched in 2018, I became its face: soft in color, quiet in expression, but unmistakable in feeling. I have walked through M Stand coffee shops, worn New Balance sneakers, and appeared at toy festivals from Seoul to Bangkok. In December 2024, I arrived in the United States with the Overture Series. The world of designer toys is vast, but I move through it slowly, deliberately — looking for the next lost creature to bring home.

Designer

Kim Sooya is a Seoul-based South Korean artist who began as an illustrator before discovering bisque ceramic doll-making around 2009, a craft she pursued for over a decade through her handmade shop Cottage de Bunny. Her adoption of a pet rabbit named Cheese that year became the emotional spark behind her signature character, Ban — a name that is a Korean pun for both "half" and "infatuation." In 2018, Sooya formally launched Sooya Studio, pivoting her ceramic craft into the designer toy and blind box market. Ban, a half-human, half-rabbit figure carrying a carrot or fish on its head, became the studio emblem — a wandering guardian searching for and protecting abandoned animals. The studio palette of cream, beige, and soft pastels, combined with poseable articulation and introspective expressions, built a devoted international following. Sooya Studio has since collaborated with New Balance x KIKS, Levis, and M Stand Coffee, and has exhibited at toy festivals across Asia. The Overture Blind Box Series marked the label major US market debut in late 2024.
