RiCO is a South Korean character designer and illustrator who has been creating original characters since 2005, operating under the studio name RECORDER Factory (리코더팩토리). Known in Korea as the "Queen of Derivatives" for her prolific licensed merchandise output, RiCO has developed over 200 original characters throughout her career. Her designs are defined by bright, rounded forms and expressive smiling faces, channeling a maximally positive aesthetic rooted in the joy of everyday life — an approach she describes as helping people find happiness in ordinary moments. RiCO's international breakthrough came through a partnership with Finding Unicorn, a Shenzhen-based designer toy company established in 2018. Under this collaboration, her signature character — also named RiCO — has been produced as blind box collectibles and specialty art toys in series including Happy Festival, Island Music Festival, and Afternoon Tea. The character has also been distributed through Pop Mart retail channels internationally. RiCO's work has been celebrated across the Korean stationery and character merchandise industries for two decades, making her one of the most recognized independent character designers in East Asian collector markets.
