Designer: HUHU

HUHU is a Chinese designer and IP creator working under the studio label MIHU Research Institute (MIHU研究所), an in-house creative unit of the Chinese designer toy brand HEYONE (黑玩). Operating under a pseudonym, HUHU rose to prominence through the development of two interconnected original IP characters — MIMI and HUHU — both of which debuted through HEYONE and have grown into nationally recognized figures within China's designer toy market. HUHU's artistic practice centers on bridging classical Chinese cultural heritage with the contemporary blind-box collectible format. Drawing on Eastern ink-painting traditions, Taoist and mythological imagery, and the visual language of Tang Dynasty literature and Chang'an-era aesthetics, HUHU constructs characters with strong narrative identities. The MIMI character became one of the defining examples of the "guofeng" (国风) movement in designer toys, earning the informal title of "national-style leader" within the collector community. Key series include Stories in Chang'an, Shan Hai You Ming, Jiuzhou Odyssey, and the overseas-exclusive Echoes of Mountains and Rivers. HUHU has made public appearances at HEYONE pop-up events across Asia, including the "Heyday Playland" event at ICONSIAM Bangkok in 2025, conducting fan signing sessions and describing Chinese cultural aesthetics as "the soul of MIMI."
