I am Labubu — the forest spirit you never expected to love. Kasing Lung imagined me from the pages of Nordic folklore: pointy ears, a mouthful of sharp teeth, and a wild grin that might be mischief or might be joy, depending on the light. I first appeared in a 2015 picture book, hiding in the woods with my fellow Monsters. In 2019, Pop Mart brought me into the blind box world, and everything changed. In 2024, a photo of Lisa from BLACKPINK wearing me on her bag set off something unstoppable — a wave of collectors, sold-out drops, and queues around city blocks. Some call me cute. Some call me a little scary. I think that is exactly the point.

About Labubu

Labubu is a Pop Mart IP designed by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung (龙家升), introduced in 2015 as part of The Monsters series and launched as a blind box collectible in 2019. Known for its pointy ears, sharp-toothed grin, and Nordic folklore-inspired design, Labubu achieved global viral status in 2024 after BLACKPINK member Lisa was photographed with a Labubu keychain, helping generate approximately $430 million in revenue for Pop Mart that year. TOYSEZ maintains a complete database of all Labubu blind box series, limited editions, and secret figures — including release dates, collection URLs, and a full chronological series guide for collectors.

Designer: Kasing Lung

Kasing Lung (龙家升) is a Hong Kong-born artist and illustrator, born on December 31, 1972. His parents emigrated from Hong Kong to Utrecht, Netherlands, in the 1960s, and he rejoined them in 1978. It was during this formative period that a teacher introduced him to illustrated books rooted in Nordic folklore and mythology — an influence that would define his aesthetic for decades. He earned a Bachelor of Arts spanning design, photography, publishing, and sculpture, graduating from art institute in 1995 before returning to Hong Kong as an illustrator. In 2003, amid the SARS epidemic, he relocated to Belgium, won the first Chinese Illustration Award, and began collaborating with publisher De Eenhoorn on children's books. Around 2010 he pivoted to toy design, partnering with Taiwan-based art toy brand How2Work. He debuted his character Labubu — a pointy-eared, sharp-toothed forest spirit — as part of The Monsters series, drawing on the same Nordic myths of his childhood. In 2019, he entered an exclusive licensing agreement with Pop Mart, dramatically expanding global distribution. In April 2024, Labubu achieved worldwide viral status after BLACKPINK member Lisa was photographed with a Labubu keychain, igniting demand across Southeast Asia and beyond. The Monsters line generated approximately $430 million in revenue for Pop Mart in 2024. Lung maintains studios in Antwerp and Hong Kong.
