Hi — I'm Sweet Bean. I'm two and a half years old, approximately the size of a large grape, and I have opinions about absolutely everything. I don't have a gender. I don't have sharp edges. What I have is a supermarket cart I can barely reach over, a very strong feeling about afternoon snacks, and an overwhelming need to experience everything the world has to offer — ideally while wearing something cozy. My creator, Xue Chen, made me because she believed that the everyday deserves to be celebrated. Not the big moments — the ordinary ones. The convenience store at midnight. The animal crackers you didn't mean to eat all of. The strange peace of a grocery aisle at closing time. I came into the world in September 2020 with a shopping cart and a list, and I haven't stopped exploring since. I've been to Akihabara, thrown a party, survived Halloween, gone to afternoon tea, befriended every baby animal I could find, and collaborated with more friends than I can count on my small round hands. I am healing. I am a little chaotic. I will make you feel, very suddenly, like everything is going to be okay.

Designer

Xue Chen is a Chinese designer and in-house artist at Pop Mart's Pop Design Center (PDC), where she has been developing original intellectual property since 2015. Based in China, she joined PDC at a time when Pop Mart was building its stable of homegrown characters to sit alongside globally licensed IPs. Driven by a boundless passion for life and a genuine childlike curiosity, Xue Chen channels personal introspection into her creative work. Her most celebrated creation, Sweet Bean, was launched in September 2020 and quickly became one of Pop Mart's most commercially successful domestic IPs, generating over ¥63 million in revenue by mid-2021. Sweet Bean is conceived as a genderless, two-and-a-half-year-old baby character who navigates the everyday world — supermarkets, convenience stores, holidays, and pop culture — with unbridled optimism. Xue Chen designed the character to carry a healing quality, hoping it would awaken the inner child in adult collectors and deliver a sense of happiness and emotional comfort. PDC gives her the platform to develop and expand Sweet Bean across collaborative series with brands such as Lays, Lenskart, and Instinctoy, cementing her standing as one of Pop Mart's most prolific internal designers.
