What is Original Labubu
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Labubu, and it also marks a year of explosive growth for the company. Let's take a look at the original Labubu.
Labubu was first introduced in 2015 by Hong Kong illustrator Kasing Lung in his picture book series "The Monsters." Inspired by the legends of Nordic forest elves, the character design incorporates "ugly-cute" traits: bunny ears, jagged teeth, and a round face, positioning it as "a reflection of the inner selves of young people."
In 2015, Kasing Lung partnered with Hong Kong toy company HOW2WORK to transform Labubu from a 2D picture book character into a physical figurine. The launch of the "The Monsters" series of small monster toys marked the beginning of a commercial venture. However, due to Kasing Lung's personal fame, Labubu wasn't widely known at the time.
In 2019, Pop Mart signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Kasing Lung, obtaining global commercial rights for Labubu's "The Monsters" series. This transformed Labubu from a niche HOW2WORK IP into a globally renowned one. As the IP producer, HOW2WORK continues to participate in the physical production of Labubu.
Thus, Labubu dolls on the market will feature both the Pop Mart and HOW2WORK logos. Both logos represent the original Labubu.
Due to Labubu's continued popularity, the prices of some original Labubu figures have skyrocketed by 10, 20, or even 100 times, with some models even setting records at auction. We've compiled a list of the top 10 most expensive Labubu figures for you to check out:

Due to the soaring prices, some unscrupulous merchants have been producing numerous fake Labubu replicas for profit. As a result, many Labubu collectors have ended up with fake Labubu replicas, nicknamed "Lafufu" in the market. Our testing department has also discovered numerous fake Labubu replicas during testing, and some collectors frequently send us private messages asking us to verify whether they have purchased an original Labubu replica. We are committed to helping collectors obtain the original Labubu replica.
Our testing department will periodically update blogs to teach you how to distinguish between original and fake Labubu replicas. We hope this will be helpful:
